SEO Friendly URLs

Hello,

I am trying to take the title of each page and place it in the URL.  Is this possible?

If not, how can I change the name so this:

sitename/article.php?id=23

could do something like:

sitename/article.php/title-of-article.html

 

I would greatly appreciate any help!  Mod Rewrite is a foreign language to me!
