I have a PHP page which gets the ID from the URL and finds the download link from the MySQL database.

It's a simple script:

$songid = $_GET['id']; //get the song ID from the title.

$query = "SELECT * FROM urls WHERE id=$songid";
$result = mysql_query($query) or die(mysql_error());
$row = mysql_fetch_array($result);
$url = $row['url'];

But I would rather the URL be displayed with: $row['filename'] . ".html"

I know a little about using RewriteEngine but I have no idea how to set the URL from the MySQL database.

Thanks

Joe

Just a thought, but am I doing this the wrong way around?

I was linking from a main page to the download.php pages with the ID for the file.

Should I be linking instead to the <filename>.html and then the rewite will convert it into "download.php?id=313453" for the script to be called?

This thread is more than a year old. Please don't revive it unless you have something important to add.
