How do I go about Rewriting a Bash Script to PHP

(I have read the rules, and I am [i]not[/i] asking for some one to rewrite something for me, I just need a pointer)

Hi guys/gals,

I am trying to re-write a bash script that uses the imagemagik lib to create thumbnails of images, and then writes an xml file to a directory. How would i go about 'convert' this to PHP? I assume all the API commands for ImageMagick the same regardless of language? If you would like me to post the script I can.
