Templating within CMS

Hi.

I am currently working on a CMS. In this CMS I want the users to be able to manage several pages. Of course, they should also be able to create their own template and choose for every single page which template it should use. Now, I know how I can do this in an ordinary fashion. However, I feel as if I could use some advice on how to do this, the best/right way. Is there any tutorial that perhaps discuss creating CMS templates? Or for that matter; good tutorials about templating in general? I looked at the tutorials here, but one used CRON (which I do not want to use) and the other one did not meet my demands :) Any recommendations?
