Hello All.

I am new to PHPFreaks and wanted to receive some advice on how to improve our search engine for products on burpy.com. Was wondering to see if there were any market tools already out there that we could integrate into our site.
We really need to improve our search relevance and speed with priority being on relevance.

Looking for any suggestions.

Thanks.

That's not really a coding question, but you can add a google search to your site if google indexes it. Of course, you may get competitors' ads in the results. If you want to have your own search engine and crawl your own site you could try Nutch http://nutch.apache.org/ Of course, a database application that searches your product database may be a better solution, but to advise on that we'd need to know something about the database your products are stored in.

Your search is pretty good.

I think you need to make single product pages and link the titles/simple descriptions to the single product page.

More detailed product information, possibly ratings, comments and so on.

The most important thing to all this is when a search engine hits your sites categories or pages, it can then follow or index those single product pages.

if you do make the single pages, you can then find or make a script to generate a complete sitemap of your site such as sitemap.xml, the search engines will find it.

This thread is more than a year old. Please don't revive it unless you have something important to add.
