Base Creative is changing and expanding. We have recently appointed a new creative director and a new technical project manager and we are looking for a:

WEB DEVELOPER 

Growth in our business has brought about the impetus to change the creative direction of the company along with the environment and atmosphere, under the direction of our creative head and with your input.

We have a good reputation, a wealth of happy clients - big established names to smaller start-ups with fresh ideas - but we want to be more innovative, fun and much more creative, growing further into cross media and device skills, forging a recognised, stellar reputation for quality creativity in the industry. We are starting with gradually overhauling our own website and studio, so be prepared to play a part in this change immediately.

Your Role

You will have full control over your output, from the planning stage right through to the back end development, while working with our other staff on the creative and development team. You can become a part of something new and exciting, playing a key role in shaping the environment within which you work. 

The perfect candidate will be 100% committed to a successful career with Base Creative, looking to learn and grow in knowledge and have a great portfolio underpinned by varied technical skills.

Responsibilities and Tasks:
  • To develop, create and build websites already designed and laid out, using the required coding, e.g. HTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL, SQL, and any other programming language the company requires that is in your skill set.
  • To be responsible for all Website Development output and production on your project
  • To plan systems and generate/approve technical specifications
  • To build static websites using HTML & CSS
  • To generate ideas and concepts concerning functionality and the development of websites.
  • To interact with clients, presenting systems and obtaining and acting on a clients feedback on an ongoing basis
  • To help manage the 2 servers under Base Creative, altering website and email configurations as required
  • To maintain your personal knowledge and interest in the design industry by attending courses, reading design related materials and pushing your own design skills in the material you produce
  • To keep up-to-date on recent software trends and new products available
  • To work in and manage a team where required.
  • To present and train systems to clients
  • Approval (sign off) of designs to be built on our proprietary CMS
  • Ownership, responsibility and accountability, including the further development of Base Creative’s CMS
  • Management of subversion repositories
  • Responsible for office IT and infrastructure, including technical IT contact
  • To work towards the continued development and improvement of Base Creative
  • Company Direction – Liaise with other team members on the way forward for a particular project and meet regularly with managing director to discuss past & future work
  • Quality Control (development) - coding is right, accurate & appropriate
  • Team – Work with, lead and inspire a strong team to get the best from those who work with you
  • Company-wide projects include:
    • Design and layout of websites
    • Build and front-end development of websites
    • Integration of our in-house Content Management System
    • Custom web development, in PHP and MySQL (done in-house)
    • Branding and Logo Development
    • SEO
    • General Web Maintenance and ad-hoc web-related tasks
       
It is essential that you have:
  • Excellent knowledge of  PHP, MySQL, HTML, CSS
  • An excellent portfolio of static and dynamic websites over a mixture of subject matter ideally, along with examples of a variety of functionality
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Excellent and up to date knowledge of HTML (5) and CSS (3), Javascript (and jQuery), including responsive design and progressive enhancement
  • Strong aspiration to continue producing excellent work
  • Content and SEO strategies
  • Clear understanding of user experience and usability
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills
It would be nice if you have:
  • Ability to show leadership skills
  • A sense of humour and playful spirit
  • Knowledge of working with Subversion
  • Some Photoshop experience
  • Creating templates for Wordpress (you’ll be using our own CMS, but at times Wordpress will be chosen)
  • You should be available to work out of hours (early or late) occasionally

We offer a very competitive salary (£28K+), a bonus scheme and beers on Fridays (amongst other things).
