login outside of wiki and forums

my website has a main site, a wiki, and  a forum, . I would like users to be able to log in on the home page, and have that login work for all three sections.

i know that i would need to use hooks and ive looked at manuals havent been able to figure out how exactly i need to use them. Any help on how to use hooks and if this is the best method to go about doing this? Thanks

I have a similar problem, I need to unite multiple logins for multiple web applications, and thought about using hooks. But there are deeper things to dig through first.

I propose:

- Making one main database for the login/password, but keep the db's of the other apps so to avoid having to go deeper in to the apps functionality.
- Making a script thats writes to the main db and sub-db's.

The next problem is making it possible for the user to navigate as one without logging out when changing web applications.

- For this a cookie authentication (if supported by the apps) comes in handy, and if not the integration of one is not necessarily painful, as I've seen several good examples online.

This is the first approach to the problem, and wiki's seem to be a common part of it. Maybe developinig an extension, that could work in several different web apps.

Tom232, have you found a solution or started on this yet? Does anyone know if there are any application suites that combine wiki with other apps under one user name and password for all the sessions.

Thanx, Pachanka
