dmol
Hello All! I need to provide web hosting on (vmware) virtual servers where each customer would have an independent machine (LAMP stack). I'm asking peoples opinion on this question: I want to keep each Linux virtual machine patched at the OS level. The Apache, MySQL and PHP applications would be compiled from source. Can I? Create multiple partitions: One for the Apps and the other partitions for the OS. When deploying a patched OS from a virtual machine template -> Turn off the virtual machine. Re-create the Customer's OS partitions from the patched template. Turn on the virtual machine. Mount the applications partition and start the apps. Everything runs OK. I would hope to compile the apps statically so that they would be (sort of) independent of the OS. Is this possible/crazy/clueless ? Thanks for reading.
