mod_rewrite owkrs locally but not live

Hi all

 

I have a small site running locally on my PC which works fine using this .htaccess file:

RewriteRule ^(/)?$ http://%{SERVER_NAME}/blue/home [L]

RewriteRule ^blue(/)?$ http://%{SERVER_NAME}/blue/home [L]

RewriteRule ^green(/)?$ http://%{SERVER_NAME}/green/home [L]

 

<FilesMatch "^(blue|green)">

    ForceType application/x-httpd-php

</FilesMatch>

---------------------------------------------------------------

 

Problem is, when i upload it the live webserver, the redirect does not work and the address bar of the browser simply stays at mydomain.com/.  Funny thinig is, is if I change the redirect to something like

 

RewriteRule ^(/)?$ httpwww.bbc.co.uk [L]

 

it does work and it does redircet to the bbc website.

 

Can anyone offer suggestions as to what may be going wrong?
