OLAP

Well, I bombed an interview today. It was for a data warehousing position. I knew they were a Microsoft shop, but it was in the same industry I'm working in now, doing pretty much the same thing I'm doing now only at the echelon above my current employer. It was something I'd really like to do, so I figured T-SQL isn't THAT much different.

So anyhow, they grilled me for 45 minutes on MDX and multi-dimensional cubes and a whole bunch of Microsoft proprietary stuff. It was quite frustrating. Afterwards I did a bit of research on MDX and multi-dimensional cubes. It was pretty interesting stuff.

So its not going to do me any good for this position, but what are our choices for implementing OLAP using open source? Are there any good references for helping an old OLTP dog get a better handle of star schemas?
