[SOLVED] UNIX_TIMESTAMP() --> ?

:) I've search on the net, and then net gave me mysql site reference, I hate their reference because they are full of technical term... I hope somebody can explain this to me, or gave me a url beside from mysql site..

 

what this function -> UNIX_TIMESTAMP() does? I know there are alike function in mysql can you explain the other..

 

what's the different between using ordinary time and unixtime?

Simply put a unix time is the amount of seconds since an epoch (a particular point in time), the epoch is defined by the unix system is 1970-01-01 00:00:00, so the a function call to unix_timestamp() return the number of seconds that has passed since 1970-01-01 00:00:00.  The unix timestamp is an effective way to sort dates.
