Table "in use" message, how to unlock?

I have two tables in my DB that are marked as "in use" and I cannot query them, open them via PHP My Admin, or anything. I understand from some research that is means the tables are locked or stuck open. What can I do to resolve this issue?

Thanks, veridicus. I should have mentioned that I have restarted mysql. Is there something I can do within PHPmyAdmin?

What would I do to unlock the tables? Sorry, I have tried some UNLOCK commands, but get bad syntax errors.
