Directory Import?

Hey Gang,

 

I'm developing an interface where I want the user, after logging in, to be able to view files such as images, pdf's, quicktimes.  First off, can they view these files within the interface or do they have to open the PDF's and Quicktimes with another piece of software?

 

Also, because the files will be changing every few hours, can I set this up so that they load from a folder rather than from a database.  I would need to be updating the database 24 hours a day in order to keep up so it would be much easier for me if they loaded from the folder. 

 

I'm open to suggestions if you have any
