Mysql ENCODE() / DECODE() problem

my work has been halted since two days please help me.

the problem i am facing is :

i am using php/mysql environment to devlope web application.

in this i am using encode() / decode() functions (of mysql in query) to encrypt decrypt the credit card information into myql database. It is working properly on my own pc, but the same query is not showing the correct output (means displays invalid characters in place of c.c. type and c.c. number ) on client machine. but some times it is giving the right output.

 

Mysql version installed on my own pc is: MySQL 3.23.49-nt

Mysql version number installed on client machine is MySQL 4.0.12
