[SOLVED] trying to display the username that is already in use on registration page

I have it working with a basic message. I am trying to be more personable.

 

can someone show me the correct way to type this line........ 

 

    $_SESSION['userExists'] = "<font color='red'> .$_POST['username']. is already in use. Please choose another username.</font>";

 

 

I keep getting errors...
