Hey,

i am trying to include html and php code for a membership website... and having a few difficulties...

I have this code in my main screen:-

<html>
<?
session_start();
if (isset($_SESSION['first_name'])) {
echo "Welcome ". $_SESSION['first_name'] ." ". $_SESSION['last_name'] ."!
    You have made it to the members area!<br /><br />";
echo "<br /><a href=logout.php>Logout</a>";
} else
{
Echo "Hello student"; }
?>
</html>

It is supposed to only say 'hello student' when you first start, then you login (which works) then is redirected back to the main page... and the code works!!  Yippee... unfortunately...

when you first load the page it says:-

"; echo "

Logout"; } else { $_SESSION['first_name']=""; Echo "Hello student"; } ?>

strange... but as soon as you login... it works... plus i can logout, and it goes to say 'hello student'...

also, as soon as i load another html page the whole thing reverts back to the start, with the same problem.

Any ideas?
