Best Approach for a "Stopwatch" : Advice Needed

Hi Everyone,

 

I am looking to get a stopwatch on my page that would allow the user to hit start, which starts the timer, then press stop and then stop the timer. I would like that stop time to be stored in a variable, in which I can then turn and INSERT it into my MySQL database.

 

I know JavaScript has timers, but is this possible with PHP?

 

Thanks, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
