I have noticed in some PHP code that there are commas. I have no idea what they are used for. If I had to take a guess, I would say they are used to format results...

Here is a chunk of code I found that has a comma in it:

<?php

$names=explode(",","Joe,Lisa,Bill,Roger,Fred,Kenney");
$counter=-1;

   while (list(,$value)=each ($names)){  //<---------------Comma on this line

      $counter=$counter+1;

      echo "<td>" . $names[$counter] . "&nbsp </td>";

      $newrow=($counter % 3);

         if ($newrow == 2) echo "</tr><tr>" ;

   }
?>

I can't figure out what it does? If I take it out of the code, nothing changes....I have also seen it used on displaying multidimensional arrays. When you use print_r(), instead of it coming out all bunched together, it puts each separate array on its own line.

I would like to find out more on what this does, I couldn't find anything about it on google as I didn't really have a clue of what to type in.

So if anyone knows of any tutorials on this, or would like to explain it, that would be greatly appreciated :)

Thanks.
