filesize() problem

i am completely sure that the list_entries.txt file is there and has a filesize greater than zero. and this i am completely dumbfounded by - when the line that has been commented out is included, the code executes as it should. i do not understand this, but i am sure this is what is happening as i have tested it several times.

should/why does this affect the code?

 

$listEntries_file = "entries/list_entries.txt";

//print filesize($listEntries_file);

 

if(filesize($listEntries_file) != 0) {

print "nonzero";

} else

print "zero";

[chigley]

} else { // Put a { here
   print "zero";

[Lumio]

make

$listEntries_file = "entries/list_entries.txt";

to

$listEntries_file = "./entries/list_entries.txt";
