Export to Excel Javascript question

I'm working on a web application that brings up a popup menu that allows the user to make selections, and than when they press the button, an Excel spreadsheet will popup with their selections.

I want the popup to close though once the spreadsheet shows up, and I can't figure out how to do it.  Any piece of javascript code I write after the export to excel code ie. self.close() seems to get written into the Excel spreadsheet, or just doesn't execute.

Anyone have any ideas?

After being given the header information for exporting to Excel ie.

header("Content-type: application/vnd.ms-excel");

header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=\"$fileName\"");

anything that is printed out after that gets written to the Excel file.  Is there a way to turn this writing off short of closing the window?

That's the problem.  Functions like windows.close() don't work after you specify the header information for the Excel Export in php.  ie.

==============================

header("Content-type: application/vnd.ms-excel");

header("Content-Disposition: attachment; filename=\"$fileName\"");

...

echo "\tfield1\tfield2";

...

echo "<SCRIPT LANGUAGE=\"JavaScript\"> window.close();</script>";

=================================

The javascript will get written into the Excel file.

Is there some way I can stop the writing to Excel, so I can get the javascript to execute.
