[SOLVED] require() vs include()

require() will trigger a fatal error in the case of failure (ie. not finding the file), whereas include() will only trigger a warning.

require() is handy in the case that a file not being included will result in the application failing or working incorrectly.  i've switched over from include to require, since the large majority of my included files are required by the application anyway.  it's mostly a matter of preference i think.

require() produces a fatal error if it can't find the file, while include() will try to continue and process the page without it.

If your include is required to run a script (like a database connection) require it. If it doesn't (like a function that strips spaces and special characters from input) you CAN include it. However, as my following example showed just because you don't require it doesn't necessarily mean you shouldn't.
