Anyone have a link to a page that teaches the proper or most common way of typing php script?

Here is a tool where you can enter PHP code, and it will return the proper way your code should look like:

I haven't really tested to see how accurate it is, but you could observe how that works and get a good idea on the "proper" way to write your code.
