Insert into DB then pass var to results page

Ok, I hope you guys can help.

 

1. I have a search field on page 1 and I want the user to enter their keyowrd which will be inserted into my search field in my mysql table.

 

2. I then want to pass the keyword as a variable to the results page which will filter the results from a recordset on another table.

 

My problem is I can do each seperatly but I need to combine the two. I thing it maybe sessions that I need to use but I'm having great difficulty in finding what I need to do on the web.
