Cookies not working..

Hi. I have installed debian etch using the guide provided in this link: http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect_setup_debian_etch

Everything seems to be working fine. Then I add phpmyadmin to access my mysql db. I try to login but I only get back to the login page again. No error messages just the login screen. If I change the login to http-based then I can login fine. But when I change back to default cookie based I cannot login. This is just not with phpmyadmin, I get the error when I try another php cookie based webapp. such as drupal cms. cannot login there either.

I am using a brand new HP Proliant dl320 server with sata disks and software raid enabled.

I am guessing that something is wrong with the function that should produce a cookie. Possibly server-hardware related but thats a long strech.

When I do an exactly the same installation on another pc-like server everything works perfect and I can login using cookies to phpmyadmin.

I have tried several linux distros all with the same error. Cookies not working. Also tried XAMMP but cookies not working. Something is wrong with my combination of php, mysql and server hardware.

Clues?
