Deb
I've been a member and moderator of a php board for 5 years or so. Now, when I go to log into the board I get the 'you've been banned from this forum' screen. Not every time though. Even though I've selected 'keep me logged in' I'm often required to login again. When I attempt to log in I get the banned screen. I've tried to re-register with the same result. Two out of every 10 times I log in I am able to go to the forum. Then when I try to post, I get the banned screen again. I've been able to post probably 3 times in the past 2 months (attempted to post over 100 times) I know they have recently moved to a different server and then were swamped with a bunch of porn pushers and the owners have changed some things to keep them from posting. I've been emailing the owner and she has absolutely no clue why I've been banned or am occasionally banned. I have deleted all my cookies on this end to no avail. Does anyone have any advice on something I can do on my end to get back in? Or for the owner to do to allow me access again? Any help would be great!!! ~Deb
frost
Do you know what forum type it is? phpbb, invision etc?

frost
The admin should be able to look up your account and restore your moderator permissions. Another thing to check is if a ban has been put on usernames or usernames with a wildcard, maybe your username falls into that list? Have you tried the "forgot password" option? See if the board will recognize you that way?
Deb
The admin said she has restored my mod status and I do see that my username is listed under each topic as moderator... I will ask about the ban on usernames. Right now I can't even get to the login screen to try the lost password approach. Just comes to the banned screen. frost
I think phpbb can also ban IP addresses? Maybe your IP is close to a banned address?
Deb
Could be. If that were the case though would I still occasionally be able to post? If it was a constant thing I could understand that but it's not. I've emailed the admin and am waiting for a reply.
Technex
Maybe it's because your on a dynamic IP, or your ISP has just changed to that?
Deb
If that is the case what would be the solution?

Deb
That doesn't seem to be the problem either. Any other suggestions? ???
frost
Can you try creating a new account and see what happens?
Deb
I've been able to actually see the forum list three times today. The first time I clicked on Log In and I got the banned screen. Second time, I clicked on a forum and got the ban screen and 3rd time I clicked on register and I get to read the terms, click on I agree ... and get the banned screen. When I spoke to the admin, who actually has a friend do most of the board work for her this is her reply: Cheryl has not cleaned them out Deb. She is so busy I will have to get Robert to do it and he is out of town. It is strange that you can get in sometimes. If you can think of a way for us to fix it we will. Cheryl will not get time till winter. Thanks for helping. Please keep trying to find out what is up with the site. The only thing Cheryl done is close it ( lock it down) to all sites and addresses they can sign up but can't get into the forum without me approving them. I get an email every time one of the ass wipes tries to sign up. They are all pending approval. Now we just have to figure out if we can keep you logged on. I can't help but think that it is some sort of cookie problem. Chances are best to get to see the forum after I've cleaned out cookies and restarted my PC. Even then, I can't post or even look at anything. I'm sorry, but they will look at it in the winter???? Others were having problems staying signed in but I guess if it's just my problem with the banned thing. Still looking for advice..... Deb
The problem was my own PC. I had a corrupt copy of Spybot that was keeping me off of the board. To find this out I had other users sign in with my name and password to narrow it down to my PC and not the server. I just took a guess and started examining anti-spyware and anti-virus I have installed. I uninstalled Spybot and the problem is solved. Thanks everyone for your replys. ~ Deb
