phi11ip
There\'s no way I can link to the Lycos MySQL databse from another host so I was wondering if there is a site or something that offers a FREE MySQL database that will allow me to use for a forum on a site hosted elsewhere... I can\'t find any and my host doesn\'t support them.. Any help will be greatly appreciated... - - - - - - - Firstly, yes I know nothing about PHP, MySQL... I\'ve got a forum uploaded to my domain webspace but my host doesn\'t support databases, meaning it will be rather difficult to get a forum that requires MySQL to work! I have however found out that my Lycos/Tripod webspace allows me a MySQL table and after testing it all out, It all works on my Lycos webspace... Here\'s the question, how would I remotely link to the database on Lycos from my other webspace? The host for Lycos would normally be \'localhost\' but this obviously won\'t work if the forum is hosted somewhere else... What would I have to specify the host as? If you can help, thanks, if you can\'t help, you probably still know more than me! Thanks, phi11ip Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/64-free-mysql-database/ Share on other sites
metalblend
This is a complete guess, but have you tried connecting to \"www.lycos.com\" ? Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/64-free-mysql-database/#findComment-176 Share on other sites

The other details are fine, it\'s just this one I cant get! AndrewBacca
I use www.freesql.org they are having problems at the moment, but there are very rare and if there do happen its working again very soon. it also has a phpmyadmin page so that you can access you database abd add/edit it. sometimes it runs slow, but you cant expect very much for a free services. it hosts I think its about 15000 database so I would say that others like it including me, and its the only one that ive found that surports external hosts unlike lycos who only give you \"localhost\" for the host name. anyway theres one for ya Andrew  Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/64-free-mysql-database/#findComment-319 Share on other sites
MCEmpire.net
when u get it working it might be a good idea to keep in mind that not all forums let u host from a lycos server. i no that invisionboard does (theres a value in conf_global.php) just thought i\'d say Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/64-free-mysql-database/#findComment-681 Share on other sites
LiamG
I\'ve heard of this but never actually tried them: http://f2o.org/. They have FREE PHP, MySQL, CFM, ASP and almost any other server-side language. And, NO ADS!!! HTH, LiamG.
