how to dump database

need help,

what is the mysql command to dump database?

i have a database.sql database file and the database name is not yet existing.

 

i tried

mysqldump -h localhost > database-db.sql

mysqldump: Got error: 1049: Unknown database 'opencms' when selecting the database

but i am getting an error and i dont think i am using the correct command.

If you are trying to backup your database:

# mysqldump -uuser -p database_name > file_name.sql

 

To dump your backup file to a new database, make sure you have created the database and then:

mysql -uuser -p database_name < backup_name.sql

 

and that should work!
