Bold/Italic/Underline buttons for text field

Hello.  I posted this thread in the PHP part of the forums because I thought that's what I'd use to accomplish what I needed to, but I was directed to post in the JavaScript part:

I don't know much about JS at all (a little experience using it a long time ago, but that's it).  Is what I need to do too much of an undertaking for a JS newbie like myself, or is there a "stock code" somewhere that I could just copy/paste (and maybe slightly ammend to my liking)?  Thanks!!!
