carlg
What is the proper way to upgrade a php installation? I have a VPS and it is running 4.? I want to upgrade it to the latest and greatest 5.2 (I think this is the latest) Do I just reinstall it over the old or is there a procedure for upgrading? SammyGunnz
Depends. Are you using cpanel or plesk? Or not using a site control panel? Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/72965-upgrading-php/#findComment-367962 Share on other sites
carlg
It's called "Simple Control Panel" Quote Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/72965-upgrading-php/#findComment-367964 Share on other sites
carlg
I actually don't need to use a site control panel if necessary. I have full root access to the server along with ssh. SammyGunnz
The untar PHP5 to a temp folder, change directories to the folder once it's unpacked...and run your install command. SammyGunnz
Note, exact instructions really depend how you're running PHP, and what OS (Linux? Windows?...hopefully*nix based :-P) I think you'll find setting up PHP as an Apache module on a Linux box is pretty easy.
