Hi Guys,

Im working on a online payment system. What happens is, is the user enters his name/contact no./email etc and then presses next, an email is sent to me with his details, then he is redirected to the paypal 'Buynow' button where he will buy the ticket(s). So he'll clicks the link and pays for the tickets etc and then he'll be redirected back to my site.

I have afew issues. First of all, what do you guys think of this process ? I think it's alittle clumsy because when his details are submitted I will recieve an email, and when he makes a payment then I will recieve a email from paypal, then I can match up his purchase with his submitted details.

Secondly, the client wants each transaction to create a unique ID for that transaction, and I'm not sure how I can do this. Should I use IP logging/cookies as once paypal has done its job it'll just redirect back to my site and nothing else.

Any ideas on how I could get this done ? I've been thinking of different ways for some time but the only ones I came up with is IP logging and cookies.

You would be best to use a Instant Payment Notification(IPN) script for this, as it is a PHP file that, once they have payed you can update a database, or e-mail yourself etc.

Or as for the logging their IP address. You may be able to create a session on the pages before to paypal, and then have the session running on their return page, and you can grab their unique session id.
