trying to make an insert using the following. data for the variables is being sent via a POST form. please advise.

<?php
mysql_connect("localhost","auction_asset","xxxxxx");
mysql_select_db (auction_asset);
$today = date("mdy");
$query = "INSERT INTO checkout(id, bidnum, deposit_amount, deposit_type, deposit_code, deposit_returned, deposit_storage)
VALUES('$today0$numbid', '$numbid','$depamt','$deptyp','$depcod','no','1')";
$result = mysql_query($query);
echo 'Item Entered.';
?>

i am pretty sure it has to do with the date function, that or the way i am trying to combine the date with a zero then the $numbid.

This:

$query = "INSERT INTO checkout(id, bidnum, deposit_amount, deposit_type, deposit_code, deposit_returned, deposit_storage)
VALUES('$today0$numbid', '$numbid','$depamt','$deptyp','$depcod','no','1')";

Should be:

$query = "INSERT INTO checkout(id, bidnum, deposit_amount, deposit_type, deposit_code, deposit_returned, deposit_storage)
VALUES('" . $today . '0' . "$numbid', '$numbid','$depamt','$deptyp','$depcod','no','1')";

thanks man! i noticed also that i had deposit_amount as the row, it was deposit_amt which was probably why it wasn't inserting to begin with, but after fixing that it was only showing the $numbid as the id row entry, because it was pulling $today0 instead of $today and then 0, your solution solved that one though. THANKs!
