PHP Eval question

I have this php script that prints out binary numbers but I can't figure out how to modify it to not use the eval function. I would like it to store the number in a variable so it can be saved to a file later. Any help is greatly appreciated!

<?php
$length  =8;
$charset = "01";

for($i=0;$i<strlen($charset);$i++) $x[]=$charset{$i};
for($i=0,$z="",$e="print ";$i<$length;$i++)

{
    $z.="foreach(\$x as \$y[$i])"; $e.="\$y[$i].";
}

eval($z.$e."\" \";");
?>
