hellonoko
I am trying to select a specific field value from a table in my DB. id is the auto incrementing value of each field and rank is its position for listing purposes. This part of the code gets the rank of the item being deleted so items after it can be re ordered. Code isn't outputting anything. Any idea? Thanks for your time, ian $delete_idea = (int)$HTTP_GET_VARS[delete_idea]; //get rank of item to be deleted $query = "SELECT rank FROM ideas WHERE id=$delete_idea" or die (mysql_error()); $result = mysql_query($query); $deleted_idea_rank = $row[0]; echo $deleted_idea_rank; exit(); Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/79621-selecting-specific-field-value-from-db/ Share on other sites
toplay
You haven't actually retrieved the data, you only have ran a query. To retrieve the data you have to use a fetch command. i.e. http://us.php.net/manual/en/function.mysql-fetch-assoc.php Link to comment https://forums.phpfreaks.com/topic/79621-selecting-specific-field-value-from-db/#findComment-403291 Share on other sites
