Problem getting form to post a value back

I am currently working on a website package and modifying it so the registration page has two extra fields - rank and extrakeywords.  for some reason when i post the form these are getting returned as empty values.  I have been working on this for ages! and by all means it seems it should work.

 

all of the other fields are posting fine.

 

does any body have any suggestions i can try?
