extreme Newbie

hello everyone,

 

my problem is i want to create a simpe homepage with php on,

so ive writen the very simple piece of code (hello world) and saved the file as index.php

 

when i use a browser to go to the page its asked me to open the file which is a application/x-httpd-php then i can either download or open with

 

arrgh so what do i need to change to allow me to save index.php so it can be browsed at

 

ive had a go at adding <DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.htm example.php> to the httpd file like so

 

<VirtualHost xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:xxx>

ServerName  xxx.xx:x

ServerAlias  xxx.xx.x

UseCanonicalName Off

ServerAdmin  "x"

DocumentRoot /var/www/vhosts/x/httpdocs

CustomLog  /var/www/vhosts/x/statistics/logs/access_log plesklog

ErrorLog  /var/www/vhosts/x/statistics/logs/error_log

<DirectoryIndex index.php index.html index.htm example.php>

 

but no luck so any help would be amazing thanks james
