[SOLVED] getting avg from text files

hey... i have a text file that includes the text numbers separated by :'s (1:5:8:7:4...)

 

looking for help on getting the average of the numbers (for a rating system)...

 

and can't get it for the life of me... any help or a place where it's been done? thanks

now, all the numbers are on separate lines:

and getting the avg like this:

$numbers = file('ratings/' . $file . '.dat');
$count = "0";
$sum = "0";

foreach ($numbers as $line) {
$count++;
$sum = $sum+$line;

}

$avg = $sum/$count;


print "$avg";
?>

 

i'm sure ther's a better way, but this is how i got it.... any better ways are welcome
