[SOLVED] side effect of ini_set (max_execution_time)

Recommended Posts

If I write

ini_set("max_execution_time", "300000");

at the top of a page to make sure that the page will run for as much time as it requires, is there any side effect? I mean may be some time it requires only 20 seconds, then setting max_execution_time 300000 seconds will cause any harm??

Second question is, as I said I want to remove any kind of restriction on that page. To do that what else should I ini_set other than max_execution_time (may be memory_limit or so)?

Well, I could not see any side effect unless your script is not written properly and might overload the server, for your second question you could increase the memory limit..

but as I say its all in whats written in the script... so you should be careful

I think there should not be any problem of server overloading because I will use those ini_set only in one page and which can be accessed by only admins - one or at most two person at a time. Also those page should never require more that 10 minutes.
