How would I do this?

e.g:
When no new posts:[img src=\"http://www.phpfreaks.com/forums/style_images/1/bf_nonew.gif\" border=\"0\" alt=\"IPB Image\" /]
else: [img src=\"http://www.phpfreaks.com/forums/style_images/1/bf_new.gif\" border=\"0\" alt=\"IPB Image\" /]

Hopefully you understand what I mean.

When do you consider posts to be 'new'?

Well I want the "new posts" image to show when the user hasn't read that post within say 24 hours.

Edit: Nevermind. I'm just going to insert a timestamp and check from there (global).
