Hi all,

I am having trouble with actually putting a PHP forum together and working. I am reading the instructions through as best i can and understand what i have to do. This is the problem.

This is what i'm doing

1. Download phpBB 3.0.0 from here - http://www.phpbb.com/downloads/

2. I then downloaded "filezilla 3.0.5" from here - http://filezilla-project.org/

3. I am then configuring filezilla to upload files straight up to my Personal webpage which is provided by Virgin Broadband. - ftp.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk

4. It then says in the installation that i need to set permissions to the config.php to be writable by all (666 or -rw-rw-rw- within your FTP Client). I am doing that once its been uploaded in filezilla.

5. Change the permissions on the following directories to be writable by all (777 or -rwxrwxrwx within your FTP Client):

store/, cache/, files/ and images/avatars/upload/. - I am doing this.

6. Using your web browser visit the location you placed phpBB3 with the addition of install/index.php or pointing directly to install/, e.g. http://www.mydomain.com/phpBB3/install/, http://www.mydomain.com/forum/install/ etc. - Now this is where im stuck. It wont let me do it at all. When ever i try to connect to anything that i have uploaded it wont see it. After 2 days of trying to do it i then uploaded my own .html file and it worked fine. Where am i going wrong? Can anyone confirm to me that php will work with Virgin personal webspace?

If anyone could help me on this and the rest of the installation i would be most grateful. Thanks.

Check the MISC forum here, there is a sticky with webhosts.

Aaaahhh. Thank you for letting me know that i had been looking at the Virgin site to find that out but i couldnt see it for the life of me.

Perhaps you could maybe give me a link to a good place to host to thats fast, easy and cheap.
