global variables in soap

good day,

 

i have a few functions on my soap server php page. i don't have any classes, so calling the functions in my soap client is straight forward. my problem is this, i cannot update a global php variable in my soap server script.

 

can global variables be used in soap functions or will i have to use classes?

e.g. in my soap client i would call SetVar() and then echo GetVar(); at this stage GetVar() outputs 'not set'

 

/*SOAP SERVER*/

...

global $var1;

$var1 = 'not set';

...

function SetVar() {

global $var1;

$var1 = 'this var is set';

}

 

function GetVar() {

global $var1;

return $var1;

}

...
