jaymc
I currently have 1 server colocated which runs mysql and apache Has 3Gig of RAM and 2 Single core processors Performance is becoming an issue, so I need to scale the servers in an N-TIER type of way I could do this by sending another 2 servers, lets say Server 1 = MYSQL only Server 2 = apache Server 3 = lighthttpd (image/static files) Of course that will cost more money to have 3 servers colocated I was thinking of building a super server, 16GB of RAM, Quad Core Would anyone advise against using the likes of VM ware to have 1 master server run 3 seperate OS's The first thing to worry about is disk speed, obviously if everything is running off the same disk you have wasted your time, so I was going to have 4 10K drives, let each service sit on its own drive Even though its a master server and has a lot more performance, is it a bad idea going virtual, would I hit bottle knecks due to the processing needs of 3 virtual servers all on one pysical computer Bus speeds etc Any advise would be great, I would love to do this virtual so Im not hit with 3 colocation bills Cheers!
