a1amattyj
Hi, Basically, i have a bunch of names in a database. I array these out. I want it so say these names were in the database : "Cat", "Dog", "Mouse". Now how do i check that if i put a variable as "Dog", for it to match it to the Dog in the database and display a true statement. At the moment, my script is checking if the "Mouse" variable is the same as all the names in the database. So its doing if "Mouse" = "CatDogMouse" - dont want it to do that. Thank you. Karl33to
i'd say it depends on how much data you want to store, the ideal solution would be to use another table to store the names in, but a simple solution that works fairly well with small amounts of data is to simply seperate them with a delimiter e.g. :dog:cat:mouse: then you can search SELECT * FROM `table` WHERE `pet` LIKE '%:mouse:%'
Bauer418
Yes but that don't match mousedogcat or catdogmouse, unless you placed delimiters are the beginning and end of the string. You could use MySQL regex functions, but there has to be a better way :-\
