Grab the Anchor!

Hi, i'm doing a duel pagination thing and I need to be able to grab the anchor part of the URL, but I seem to be running into a roadblock through general searching. I've tried looking through all server variables etc...

Basically i've got a link, say 'http://www.a.com/index.html#here' and I need to get the 'here' bit... Has anybody got a solution please?

Yes - don't use the anchor   The anchor is not sent to the server - it's used by the client only.  If you want to use pagination, I'd suggest using the query string.  You can just put the page number in the query string like this:

 

index.html?2

...

index.html?20

 

(where no query string means page 1).

I don't think the above code will work (although I could be wrong), as there is no name for the variable. You would need to do this:

 

index.html?page=2
...
index.html?page=20

yes, that's correct it needs to be a key / value pair, but i've just checked to see if Dave was inferring that it would work as an anchor. I'd prefer not to but I suppose that i'll have to use both:

index.html?pageid=33#id33
