Spam mail

For an email to be received and not voted as spam/junk, everything about the email, from the sending mail server to the content must pass all the tests the receiving mail server performs.

Your sending mail server must be properly configured. Its' DNS records must be correct, including having an SPF record...

Your sending mail server must not appear on the major spam databases or have previously been guilty of sending spam to that ISP.

Your email must be "mechanically" correct with valid headers, real From/Reply-to/Return-path addresses...

The content in the subject and body of the email must not contain spam like content.

Problems in any of these areas will cause the receiving mail server to assign a spam/junk rank to your email and if the rank exceeds the setting for the receiving mail box, the email will go into the spam/junk folder.

Different ISP's check different things and assign different spam/junk ratings to each one. Just because an email goes through to one ISP does not guarantee that it will go through to another.

Most of the major ISP's have a "postmaster" web page that tells you what you need to do to get an email accepted by them. You should be able to find the pages for hotmail/msn, yahoo, and gmail by simply searching.
