PHP SMS Text/File Sending

Alright, I have an Idea.. its mostly a personal Idea.. but base of it is, I occasionally make ring tones, wallpapers, little video clips etc for my phones.. and well a couple friends caught wind of the idea of me doing this and want some stuff from me.. biggest problem is some of them aren't even remotely close to me, and a couple even don't have computers.. So Can't necessarily just connect there phone or memory cards to my PC to give it to them. So I started thinking about them ring tone sites out there.. And came to the conclussion that I want to make a small application of sorts that I can just upload a file to one of my servers and send them the file(s). One or 2 people without internet compatible phones also.. So, what I guess I am looking for is any and all information I can get on the subject.. Not necessarily full on answers (unless you have them)..

But tutorials, information you can share with me from your own style of apps etc..

Main reason I want to do it myself is to avoid the hassel of "Free Services" similar in concept, nor do I really want to pay for a gateway of sorts to do it, when its something I'm doing on the side for ha ha's..

The w3school is a good link, will deffinately read through that more, but with that I still run into the issue of sending files or media.. Im looking more for methods of making a php, java, html, whatever have you app web browser based that I can just simply attach a file through and send it SMS style.. or as Tmobile puts it Picture/Video Message.. cause from there I know most phones can save said media to the internal memory or a memory card, then be used from there as tones, wallpaper etc..
