savantcreative
I need to start producing dynamic websites. I know XHTML and CSS. I also own CS3 Web Premium and need to know whether I should learn PHP or ColdFusion. Which is best, easiest to learn and use and what is the fastest way to learn it (big and small picture). I have the developer version of CF 8. Will I need to spend any more money to work with it? Thanks so much for your answers. fanfavorite
Seeing as Coldfusion is discontinued, I would say PHP would be the better solution to learn. Fastest way to learn depends on the person. Personally I am a hands on person, so when I started, I took existing scripts and ripped them apart to see what did what. There are millions of free scripts out there to test out, just make sure if you end up using them to help donate and make sure you follow the licensing. I would figure out some projects that you want to do, search for tutorials and scripts and start building. This forum is here for questions to help you along and become a better phper. savantcreative
I'm sorry but I don't understand. ColdFusion 8 came out about a year ago and was just updated the other day. What makes you say that it has been discontinued? Tank you for your help. fanfavorite
I could be mistaken. I tried finding articles that I have read in the past little while, but can't find anything now except for this: "We have seen a rapid trend and move from ColdFusion to other emerging rich web technologies such as AJAX, Flex, and Silverlight," "After ColdFusion became part of the Adobe product line Adobe recently decided to discontinue its support of the magazine." (ColdFusions Development Journal) - http://dotnet.sys-con.com/read/426141.htm Nothing that directly points to it, but some flags nonetheless.
