Get other data from table

Hello,

I have the follow situation:

I have a php login system thats redirect you to another page if the login was successful, the username from the login is stored in a session.
So i have the username from the person who logged in, on the website: 'Welcome username'.
But i want to have: 'Welcome Full Name'. I already have a sql database with the usernames, passwords and full names, but i don't know how to implement it.

Database:

Full Name          Username          Password
John Smith          john123               mypassword

My question to you is if you can write a example code for me, that i can implement it on my login system.

If you know how to store the users username in the session then you should be able to work out how to do it for a the first name too.
