There is a "workaround" that effectively does the same thing. On the top right or bottom right of a thread is a "Notify" button.  You can click on it to set the thread to notify you if people post in it.

 

Now, if you go to

 

Profile > Notifications

 

You will see a listing of all threads you want to be notified on.  Also on this screen you can change it to where you do not actually get notifications if you don't want to actually get notified.
