  1. Thanks for this insight into stacks. I plan to use awareness of the Microsoft stack to better see what to study in order to develop some experience. I did mention PHP. I will use Apache if I ever use PHP. My focus will be about administration rather than development. I wanted self hosting experience. There was a PHP based ERP called openERP and it runs on IIS. Albeit, IIS 5.0 and Windows NT. I didn't know of any contemporary ERP that was a fit for Microsoft products. Thanks for pointing out that Vieena Advantage is actually a hybrid and not purely Microsoft.
  2. Barand, Maxxd; Thank you for your replies. I now understand that popularity of PHP is likly why OpenERP, ERPNext, and serveral other related software for inventory management or CRM are written in PHP. Glassfish and Tomcat come to mind when I consider that java is also a popular language where you find an ERP eg. OpenBoxes or Odoo. Thanks to your answers I could see that like any language or even framework you have these projects, jumping off points, and recipe/cookbook/manuals. It turns out that the language of ASP.NET is C# and .Net. I found an ERP that is current and popular. From the website: This ERP when downloaded has an archive with the web hosting pages and a oracle dump file. My "stack" then will consist of IIS server, ASP.NET, and Visual Studio. I have used visual studio for C++ programming but never a book with a focus on hosting a .NET application as webpage. Maybe this is covered in books about ASP.NET. Just for reference I want to link to a linked in article that shows popularity of VIENNA Advantage here: ERP Report SAP vs NetSuite vs VIENNA Advantage
  3. Thank you. The answers are very important to me. I was wondering what would a better language be for an Enterprise Resource Planning system and also a good Microsoft stack?
  4. Is there a PHP framework for a Microsoft stack? What is it called?
  5. In a stack consisting of Microsoft products e.g. IIS, SQL exchange server, asp.net, and visual studio; How is PHP used with ASP.NET? Does ASP.NET have a PHP compiler? Is ASP.NET a way to securely execute PHP in some isolated way? My dream system is an ERP based on PHP. How would the ERP in PHP depend on the ASP.NET framework?
  6. I need to change SSH to PHP: Is *PHP* typically used at the point of ASP.NET in a stack consisting of Microsoft products (IIS, SQL exchange server, asp.net, visual studio) Especially if the system is an ERP based on *PHP*?
  7. Not re if I will seem like an egoic last word seeker. I now see that VMs are for services and RDP is a windows remote managment protocol like ssh is with my Linux based VM client. So does the IT industry refer to RDP, SSH, and VNC as "remote managment protocols". Then is VDP considered a service based protocol? Most important, is a terminal server a managment server of many servers in a large system? Then is a hypervisor (server) using VDP a provider of desktop service to many employees? Is SSH typically used at the point of ASP.NET in a stack consisting of Microsoft products (IIS, SQL exchange server, asp.net, visual studio) Especially if the system is an ERP based on SSH?
  8. Okay. I will keep in mind that using Windows server to host a part of a WMS that is also unix related is not as easy as it sounds. So scratch that notion. One day I'll have more info on types of organizations that use Windows server. I work in a warehouse. The managers & laborers use windows clients & edge. Not much more of an idea what it is used for. But I hear things about terminal servers and RDP vs Hypervisor and VDP. Obviously one uses more bandwidth than the other but what do they use remote desktops or virtual machines on a server for? To "take care of business"? I just am missing details that I need to understand completely. Thanks for your input about my concepts of the stack. I am beginning to look into ASP.NET. I am hoping it sheds light on PHP the same way glassfish has shed light on java.
  9. Huh. Ok. Didn't think about a windows stack but that does clarify my thoughts of learning about Microsoft Products. I think I am most interested in how Windows Server seems like the way organizations host a front end for their Intranet. I was just curious about it. I noticed that the organization I work for has a Windows client and edge browser that connects laborers and managers to a warehouse management system. The windows clients with Edge browser probably connect to Windows server. I believe it makes administration of the user area easier. I would think the WMS developer uses PHP for compatibility with IIS. Then the user area has access to the micro apps for functions of the WMS. Doing the same in java seems difficult for the Microsoft environment. But I know little about how it all actually works. I do not know much about the back half. The WMS developer runs want ads for candidates with a strong Oracle DBMS background. I often imagine they are using Solaris as well. My guess on that is Solaris has more security features that profit driven organizations need.
  10. That's a great idea. I do want to use IIS and now realize my goal is more about web server administration. I do want to self-host openpro, some ERP with an installation guide showing pictures from back in the Windows NT/IIS 5.0 days, I don't want to develop as much as I want to execute code on a server, and I have a book on IIS by William R. Stanek; then I'll focus on IIS. I will only use Apache if the author has good chapters about web server administration. I will have to find such a book but at least I know that I want to learn about the server.
  11. Thanks. So, I want to try loading PHP code on to a IIS web server. What if the author of the book is using Apache products. You mean to say there is no difference weather I take the code from the book and use IIS instead of Apache? I know the source code is the same. But what if the author says put the code in what ever folder Apache uses and initiate the PHP JIT compiler and IIS differs? How hard is it to read a book on how to use IIS to serve PHP web pages? I think something isn't right here and this plan is missing something. Do you know how I could cross develop with PHP, IIS, and Apache webserver(s)?
  12. I need help finding a book about IIS and PHP. I am looking for a book with example source code in PHP for use with IIS. Most books for PHP pertain to Apache. I am trying to have a jumping off point with PHP but am intrigued by the corporate mystique of IIS and it's web applications.
  13. Hello. I am interested in locating business management applications written in PHP and having the source code processed by IIS server and Microsoft SQL Exchange server. I have located at least 3 inventory management applications written in PHP but with very little "steps" to take to install. I know of at least one book available via Kindle: Beginning PHP Laravel: ...building an inventory...application A project that is my end goal has installation steps described here: OpenPro Installation Instructions I do not yet know much about php at all. I am a beginner. I would like to read books that will make it clearer to me as to how to follow the steps to Install Open Pro. What about books that deal with PHP loading using a loader like IONCUBE? What about the proverbial "cookbook" or about steps/recipies to quickly help get some source running on a server? I have a book about IIS but it is not for beginners. Any titles of books about loading source onto IIS would be helpful. Thanks. Let us not forget I will need to work with exchange server as well. I have experience with other "jumping off points" and I believe I could follow the steps at the openPro website. As I have done almost no programming in PHP, if I just could read other books, hopefully dealing in business applications and the microsoft database and webserver, I would be able to follow the steps on the openPro website. They actually don't seem that hard...but I have know idea what I am supposed to do with the source. Stuff like that. If I was walked through the process in some other book, I bet those steps on the OpenPro website would be clearer to me. Thanks for any titles of books you can suggest!
