2. Hey everyone , me and drace are having some problems getting our virtual host to work properly , here is the code we have
<VirtualHost *>   ServerName www.paranoiaonline.co.uk   ServerAlias paranoiaonline.co.uk   DocumentRoot "C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/htdocs/pwd/" </VirtualHost> # <VirtualHost *>   ServerName www.cascade-online.com   ServerAlias cascade-online.com   DocumentRoot "C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/htdocs/cascade" </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *>   ServerName www.gamingsearch.co.uk   ServerAlias gamingsearch.co.uk   DocumentRoot "C:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/htdocs/cheats" </VirtualHost>
www.paranoiaonline.co.uk works fine , it goes to the correct page , but as soon as we try www.cascade-online.com it doesnt work but we have found if we put www.cascade-online.com/cascade it does work , we dont know why we think there is an error somewhere in our code can someone please clarify it for us
3. Hey Everyone again , its been a while since ive posted , i left the server alone for a while as it was really starting to bug me not being able to get it right. I have now deiced to remove WAMP and just install Apache , i have now done this and need to know where to begin , i know it sounds like im asking the same questions again but im just trying a fresh start thanks Cascade
4. After doing some digging , and looking through various books  , should the virtual host be setup like this heres the example from the book NameVirtualHost 192.168.128.10 Listen 192.168.128.10:80 <VirtualHost 192.168.128.10> ServerName host1.example.com DocumentRoot /usr/local/apache2/htdocs/host1 </VirtualHost> oviously need to change the example ip's and document roots etc Also somewhere in the back of my mind i keep thinking that WAMP is slowing us down , i really want to get rid of it and just have Apache running or something like that advice would be great thanks Cascade
5. I Have been looking for this file and have found this its called httpd.conf and it opens as a Text document , i found it in C:\wamp\Apache2\conf , is that it . heres what is says about Virutal Host ### Section 3: Virtual Hosts # # VirtualHost: If you want to maintain multiple domains/hostnames on your # machine you can setup VirtualHost containers for them. Most configurations # use only name-based virtual hosts so the server doesn't need to worry about # IP addresses. This is indicated by the asterisks in the directives below. # # Please see the documentation at # <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/vhosts/> # for further details before you try to setup virtual hosts. # # You may use the command line option '-S' to verify your virtual host # configuration. # # Use name-based virtual hosting. # #NameVirtualHost *:80 # # VirtualHost example: # Almost any Apache directive may go into a VirtualHost container. # The first VirtualHost section is used for requests without a known # server name. # #<VirtualHost *:80> #    ServerAdmin webmaster@dummy-host.example.com #    DocumentRoot /www/docs/dummy-host.example.com #    ServerName dummy-host.example.com #    ErrorLog logs/dummy-host.example.com-error_log #    CustomLog logs/dummy-host.example.com-access_log common #</VirtualHost> any help here would be great
6. First of all myself and Drace would like to thank the following people for helping us out , makeshift_theory  , and Apacheguy , you have been very helpfull so far , but we need more help if you would be so kind. With your guidance we can now remotely access the server , eg the test index page is now vissible outside the lan and we also have remote FTP access , using FileZilla. Now we need to know how to create multiple sites on the server and assign them doman names and all that kind of stuff , Myself and Drace own domain names , do we need to provide any info to our domain name registrars or do we just setup virtual host , as you can tell we dont know much about this but we are getting there slowly . Also we are still running the program called WAMP , should we uninstall this and change to just apache , maybe this would be easier  ??, but would it mess up any of the port settings or anything like that if we did ??. once again thank you for your time , reply to us together or seperatly it dosnt matter , eg if im not here , talk to Drace and vice versa Thanks Cascade
7. I think i have opened port 80 , i ran grc.com again and got this GRC Port Authority Report created on UTC: 2006-12-27 at 10:40:34 Results from scan of ports: 0-1055     1 Ports Open     3 Ports Closed 1052 Ports Stealth --------------------- 1056 Ports Tested The port found to be OPEN was: 80 Ports found to be CLOSED were: 53, 81, 443 Other than what is listed above, all ports are STEALTH. TruStealth: FAILED - NOT all tested ports were STEALTH,                   - NO unsolicited packets were received,                   - NO Ping reply (ICMP Echo) was received. Im not sure why or how some ports were closed ?
8. i went to www.grc.com and used that shields up tool to check my ports , they all came up as Green which was Stealthed , im guessing this means there not open. GRC Port Authority Report created on UTC: 2006-12-26 at 16:52:39 Results from scan of ports: 0-1055     0 Ports Open     0 Ports Closed 1056 Ports Stealth --------------------- 1056 Ports Tested ALL PORTS tested were found to be: STEALTH. TruStealth: PASSED - ALL tested ports were STEALTH,                   - NO unsolicited packets were received,                   - NO Ping reply (ICMP Echo) was received. Which ports do i have to try and open to enable appache to work ? , i hear its Port 80 and Port 443 , is this right ??
9. Hey everyone this is my first post and im looking for help im new to running a server and am having trouble setting it up. I am trying to make a web server so that i can host multiple web sites each with multiple pages on the same server. i guess i should start by talking about the server its got a 3.2 Ghz Intel CPU -- quick enough for what i need 2 GB of RAM 200 GB IDE Hard Drive DVD-Rom Drive It currently has Windows XP Installed but this could be changed if what im doing is wrong. The Server is connected to the internet via a network that goes like this Phone Line --- Netgear ADSL Modem Router DG834 ---- Netgear 5 port 10/100 Mbps Switch FS605 , Port 1 of the switch is taken by the line from the modem to the switch , port 2 has a Netgear 108 Mbps Wireless Firewall Router WGT624 , which is directly connected to my actual PC. Then i have port 3 of the switch connect directly to the server via a network cable oviously. The Server has an internet connection as i would expect but all atempts to set up the server have failed beacuse no one outside my network is able to access it I would be most greatful if someone could tell me where i am going wrong and give detailed easy to follow instructions on how to do it right , in the end all i want to do is have a server to host the websites that i produce. Also it would be helpful to know what software i should be using on the server , as you can tell i am new to this so please take it slow and help me as ill be most greatfull for your advice and guidance I have been told that Apache is the best to use for this , am i right in doing so , also instructions on which apache files to download and how to install them would be great Thank you for your time Cascade aka John
